Wisco Wednesday: The Mighty Ducks

It’s been 14 years since Wisconsin had a crack at #1 on their home turf. I just wish this was a different Wisconsin team going into the game.

What about Iowa?

We’re not discussing the Iowa game in depth. Everything was bad. But specifically, the O-Line, D-Line, and QB play were really really bad. I’d be shocked if both the OC and the DC were employed next year.

Moving on…

Game Preview: Oregon

#1 Oregon at Wisconsin

Where: Camp Randall Stadium

When: Saturday, 11/16 – 6:30 PM (CST)

How to Watch: NBC

Spread: Oregon -14.5

O/U: 52.5

Oregon Ducks’ Record: 10-0

Best Win: 32-31 Over #2 Ohio State

#1 in the Camp at Night:

Since 1973 the #1 team in college football has played at Camp Randall 5 times. Ohio State twice, Michigan twice, and Iowa once. Wisconsin went 2-3 in those games… not too bad.

My point is, this is not a common occurrence. The last #1 to play at Camp Randall, 2010 Ohio State, lost to an unranked Wisconsin team. JJ Watt had the game sealing sack.

There are probably a lot of apathetic fans at this point in the season. But they shouldn’t let the scarcity of #1 in Camp Randall slip by them. As long as the game is within reach, keep the stadium loud and the TVs on.

Phil Longo’s Job Security:

I think I’m done with Longo. Brayden Locke isn’t it, and Longo is the one who brought him in. If the freshman behind Locke isn’t a serious threat to stealing the starting job (which makes sense, he’s a freshman) that’s also on Longo.

Never say never. If Wisconsin managed to lose respectably to Oregon, notch some wins against Nebraska and Minnesota, and bring in a new highly sought after QB in the offseason, then maaaaaybe I could see giving Longo another year to figure it out. But that’s a lot of “ifs” that would need to hit.

Prediction:

We haven’t talked much about the Oregon football team yet, and that’s because they are good all around. They have a top 5 QB, a good run game, a good pass D, and a good run D. While they may not be the best in any one area, they are good to great in all of them.

There are only 2 things that are in Wisconsin’s favor for this game.

  1. It’s a home night game.
  2. Oregon has played 7 straight conference games leading into Saturday; Wisconsin is coming off a bye.

Unfortunately, those 2 factors won’t move the needle. Bucky doesn’t have a chance. This is going to look and feel a lot like the Alabama game. It will take a miracle just for the crowd to still care by Jump Around.

Wisconsin 10
Oregon 42
