I am attempting to do the impossible: predict the entire 1st round of the 2025 NFL draft. Will I get most of these wrong? Absolutely. Let’s give it a shot anyway.
#1 – Tennessee Titans:
QB Cam Ward – Miami (FL)
Cam Ward is going #1 overall, there is no debate here. In last year’s QB class, he’d fall somewhere between Michael Penix Jr. and Drake Maye.
#2 – Cleveland Browns:
WR/CB Travis Hunter – Colorado
If he were just a WR, Travis would be WR1. If he were just a CB, he’d be in the top 3 and possibly the best one. Instead, he’s both and has the endurance to play over 100 snaps per game. This is the consensus best player in the draft. He walks into the building as WR1 and is likely in the 3rd down package on defense.
#3 – New York Giants:
EDGE Abdul Carter – Penn State
The best EDGE in the draft goes to the Giants. They have Russ and Jamis and can deal with QB farther down the board. This does mean they likely trade away Thibodaux before the season starts.
#4 – New England Patriots:
OT Will Campbell – LSU
This is where the draft starts. I have the best OT as Armond Membou, but he’s a right tackle. Will Campbell is nearly as good, and one of the highest character guys in the draft.
#5 – Jacksonville Jaguars:
DT Mason Graham – Michigan
At the 11th hour, everyone has Jeanty going 5 to Jacksonville. I think it’s a smoke screen, or someone else is coming up for him. Let’s assume it’s a smoke screen. Mason is elite at stopping the run, but still has room to improve his pass rush. He could fall, but I’m not going to be the one who calls that.
#6 – Las Vegas Raiders:
RB Ashton Jeanty – Boise State
Jeanty is elite. Pete Carroll gets his Beast Mode 2.0.
#7 – New York Jets:
OT Armond Membou – Missouri
The Jets got their LT of the future last year. Now they get the RT of the future. It’s boring, but it makes sense. So the Jets likely find a way to screw this up.
#8 – Carolina Panthers:
EDGE Jalon Walker – Georgia
This is one of the most polarizing players in the draft. Some analysts have him as a top 5 player, others have him as a 2nd round talent. The discrepancies in evaluation are because he’s a “tweener.” He played linebacker on 1st and 2nd down, then EDGE on 3rd downs. Is he an elite positionless player? Or is he a player without a position? Carolina bets on the former.
#9 – New Orleans Saints:
TE Tyler Warren – Penn State
The last true blue chip player comes off the board here. New Orleans always thinks they are in win now mode. Warren is much more than just a TE. He runs the ball, plays wildcat QB, and has lined up on the OL to snap the ball, then ran down field to catch a TD. Watch his highlights, they are ridiculous.
#10 – Chicago Bears:
OT Kelvin Banks Jr. – Texas
There are not a lot of elite OTs in this draft. They will go early and often. The Bears have made it clear they intend to protect Caleb Williams. That makes Banks a Bear.
#11 – San Francisco 49ers:
DT Walter Nolen – Ole Miss
San Fran needs DT, EDGE, and CB, so predicting where they go here is very difficult. There are some NFL beat reporters I listen to that said back in February San Fran was enamored with Nolen. I’d bet that’s the direction they go. The pass rush aficionado is a 49er.
#12 – Dallas Cowboys:
WR Matthew Golden – Texas
The Dallas WR room is Ceedee Lamb and who? This pick is down to Golden and T-Mac; I think Jerry goes with the hometown guy.
#13 – Miami Dolphins:
CB Will Johnson – Michigan
Jalen Ramsey wants more money, and the CB spot opposite him could also use an upgrade. Outside corner is a screaming need I don’t think Miami can ignore.
#14 – Indianapolis Colts:
TE Colston Loveland – Michigan
Indy would love for Tyler Warren to fall to 14, but Loveland is a hell of a consolation prize. TE is a need, and Loveland is a top 10 player in the eyes of many scouts.
#15 – Atlanta Falcons:
EDGE Mike Green – Marshall
Mike Green is a top 10 talent with some character issues that will push him down the board. The fall stops here. Atlanta has done extensive homework on Green, which makes me think they are talking themselves into drafting him.
#16 – Arizona Cardinals:
EDGE Shemar Stewart – Texas A&M
Shemar Stewert is the most twitched up athletic freak in the draft. A perfect 10.0 RAS. Unfortunately he only has 4.5 sacks in the last 3 years. Some teams hate his lack of production, others covet his limitless ceiling. Someone is taking Shemar in the 1st, but picking who is crapshoot. I went with the Cards because they need another EDGE guy and they are dead center of round 1. Seems like a good spot to take a chance.
#17 – Cincinnati Bengals:
EDGE Mykel Williams – Georgia
Cincinnati has consistently drafted players from elite SEC schools in the 1st round. With all the recent spending on offense (and the Trey Hendrickson grumblings), I think they go EDGE. 1 + 1 = Mykel Williams.
#18 Seattle Seahawks:
S Nick Emmanwori – South Carolina
Seattle SHOULD draft IOL or T-Mac. But Seattle has consistently gone off the rails in recent drafts. And as an organization, they do not see IOL as a position worthy of a 1st round pick. Nick Emmanwori is as off the rails as it gets. Seattle needs safety; they have used premium picks on the secondary before, and Emmanwori is an athletic freak. Consider this a dart throw. (Seahawks fans have torches and pitchforks out because I didn’t pick Gray Zabel)
#19 Tampa Bay Buccaneers:
EDGE Donovan Ezeiruaku – Boston College
2024 FBS sack leader. Say no more. (Jeff Hafley really wants Donovan to fall to GB.)
#20 Denver Broncos:
WR Emeka Egbuka – Ohio State
Denver needs a running back and a wide receiver. Emeka fits what Sean Payton likes – a guy who can play slot and outside at equally high levels. Egbuka is also one of the cleanest prospects in the draft from a health, character, and interview standpoint.
#21 Pittsburgh Steelers:
DT Kenneth Grant – Michigan
Grant is a true nose tackle who immediately improves the Steelers’ D-line. This assumes that Pittsburgh has plans in motion to get Rodgers or Cousins.
#22 Los Angeles Chargers:
OG Tyler Booker – Alabama
Smash-mouth, violent, downhill, run-blocking maniac. Sounds like a Harbaugh type of player, no?
#23 Green Bay Packers:
WR Tetairoa McMillan – Arizona
Green Bay drafts a WR in the 1st round for the first time in 23 years. It took a lot of luck, other teams drafting for need, and a phenomenal player falling 10 picks farther than he should. T-Mac, welcome to the Pack.
#24 TRADE!
Minnesota Vikings >>> Cleveland Browns:
QB Shedeur Sanders – Colorado
Is Shedeur better than Dart? Not necessarily. But after drafting Travis Hunter at #2 overall the Browns should overpay to go up and get his college QB.
The Vikings have only 4 picks in the entire draft and will absolutely be fielding calls to trade back.
#25 Houston Texans:
OT Josh Conerly Jr. – Oregon
Houston needs a left tackle. Not taking one would constitute GM malpractice. They will be trying to trade up all draft, but in this scenario, one falls into their lap.
#26 Los Angeles Rams:
CB Jahdae Barron – Texas
Rams have a need at CB and Barron has fallen farther than I expected in this mock. He will be an elite NFL nickel. Keep an eye on Jackson Dark here though.
#27 Baltimore Ravens:
S Malaki Starks – Georgia
The Ravens always have an elite player at a position of need fall into their lap. Malaki Starks is the man of the hour this year.
#28 Detroit Lions:
OG Grey Zabel – North Dakota State
Dan Campbell gets the best zone blocking guard of the draft to bolster their O-line. This is a perfect player-to-team fit.
#29 Washington Commanders:
EDGE Nic Scourton – Texas A&M
The head coach is an ex-DC who specialized in pass rushers. And they need a pass rusher. Scourton is solid, if not a bit of a reach. But the Commies have reached for players I didn’t agree with before. This checks out in my humble opinion.
#30 Buffalo Bills:
CB Maxwell Hairston- Kentucky
He was the fastest player in the combine. Someone is taking a chance on his speed in the 1st. (Trey Amos CB – Ole Miss, would be a slightly safer pick).
#31 Kansas City Chiefs:
OT Josh Simmons – Ohio State
There are character concerns… but KC has never been one to care about that. There are also medical concerns… but he won’t need to play immediately in this spot. Kansas City gets a steal with possibly the best pass blocking O-lineman in the draft.
#32 Philadelphia Eagles:
EDGE James Pearce Jr. – Tennessee
Philly is elite at identifying D-Line talent. They have also shown they are willing to completely ignore immaturity concerns. Pearce Jr., come on down. Many analysts have an elite pass rush grade on Pearce, but expect him to fall because of character issues. The Eagles are happy to have him.
#33 Minnesota Vikings (via Cleveland):
RB Omarion Hampton – North Carolina
Conventional wisdom says Hampton is going in round 1. But, NFL GMs have constantly undervalued the RB position. The Tar Heel falls to the top pick of round 2, and the Vikings have a succession plan for an aging Aaron Jones.
